Sci-Fi All Terrain Vehicle?

Hi all.
While perusing the toy aisle of a well known supermarket, we all need inspiration from somewhere, my eagle eyes spotted this interesting little gem from Hot Wheels.

Beware the Evil Snowmen from

Well the Christmas craziness has kicked off over at the website. SN01, The Evil Snowmen, is the first code in yearly expanding range of festive themed miniatures. To quote Gavin on the blog:
They will only be for sale during the festive period of the year (until 8th January 2014) and will then be placed in storage until winter 2014 when they will be joined by another pack with something else Christmas themed.
You can buy them in a pack of 5 or in a horde of 20 miniatures, saving yourself 10% in the process! If that wasn't enough, you'd better check out their other festive offers here! Better be quick as the offers will change soon!

Havelock Battlesuit Reporting for duty!

Hi all,
I've finished  my first Havelock Battlesuit and thought I'd share some pics with you. I'm happy with how it turned out. It's a great miniature to paint, to ease painting, I left the gun off till last. I did glue the weapon in place, but I think you could easily fit a magnet system to take advantage of the other four weapons that come with the miniature.

Havelock Battlesuit WIP

Hi all,

Just thought I'd share a couple of in progress pics of a Havelock Battlesuit I got, as part of the Early Supporters deal from The Ion Age, earlier this month. I wasn't sure on the colours, so I'm painting just the one for now, to see how it turns out.

Here's the pics,

I'll post more pic when I'm finished, but for now, I'd love to hear some comments.

Take care.

Update 16/11/13

Hi all.
Just thought I'd show some pics of the Retained Lance (Platoon) I've finished so far. The Infantry is completed, I just need to figure out what vehicle support it'll need. Until The Ion Age release a Battlesuit Unit for the Retained, I have stand ins (see pics below), but will need some transport of some kind, I'll have to go for something that still fits with the whole futuristic knights theme.

September Round Up!

Hi all

Sorry I haven't really bloged this month, but I've had a bit off a pants month, I put my back out, which laid me low for a couple of weeks. Now I seem to have caught a cold. Hence I haven't done much on the gaming front.

I did manage to paint a few Retained Knights from The Ion Age. I ordered a lot of these excellent mini's not long after The Ion Age site Launched. They also give away a free special mini for any orders.

USE ME Starship Battles Review.

I've had the USE ME Starship Battles rules for awhile now, I have been meaning to give these rules a go and do a review but, due to real life things and a few different projects started, I haven't had a chance to use them.....till now.

Before I start on the review of these Starship Battle rules I will just like to mention a little about the USE ME System (Ultra Simple Engine for Miniature Engagements). As the acronym suggests these rules aim to provide a quick and simple gaming system. have a impressive number of USE ME rulebooks to cover a lot of gaming genre, from Spaceship Battles to the Wild West, if you play it, then aim to have a USE ME rulebook for you.

Maritime Ipswich Festival

Ipswich Waterfront
Hi all,
I'm posting this a week late, but I thought Id share some pictures of the Maritime Festival in Ipswich, that took place over the week end of 24th & 25th August 2013.

Every year Ipswich hosts this festival to celebrate all things nautical and bring together Ipswich's Waterfront Maritime past, present and future at the Ipswich Waterfront, Quayside and Docks. Here's some of the activities staged for the weekend, a craft market, a beer festival, hosted by Isaacs's bar, fairground, Yo Ho Ho Pirate Puppet Show (I missed this) , boat cruises and Georgian re-enactment activities. There was a lot more happening, too much for me to list properly.

Painting Update 18/08/13

Ok, it's been a few weeks since I posted, and I haven't managed to get much painting done in that time. I did complete a couple of units. I thought I'd share some pics on the progress of my Human fantasy army.

Painted army so far

Castell Coch Part 3

Sorry I haven't posted for awhile, I've not had time of late for my hobby. I thought I'd show some more work in progress pics of the castle, after a coat of paint, still much to do. I still have to complete the cone roof sections, paint the other roofs and the earth embankment the castle sits on. Here are the pics.

Gate house with portcullis (it works btw).

Painting Update 16/07/13

Just a little update on my army painting. I re-based the figures I had already painted, after finally deciding to base the miniatures individually. I made some unit trays to keep them together as well.

I'm going to base my 15mm armies in the Warhammer setting. Although I don't particularly like the Games Workshop as a company, I do love the Warhammer universe they have created. It was the first war game I played, sooooo many moons ago, and got me hooked on war gaming, plus I still have some army books and a (older) rule book.

There Be Dragons!

Hi all,

Just a few snaps of a dragon I've painted. This is a repaint of an old miniature I had, when repainting it I realised I've had the miniature for around 20 years!!! I seem to remember buying it from a little back street gaming shop in Cardiff for a about a £5, a quick Google search confirms it is The Red Dragon, produced by Grenadier Miniatures. Anyway here are the snaps of the dragon with some 15mm mini's for a size comparison.

Until the next time!

Castell Coch Part 2

Hi all,
Following on from my previous Castell Coch post, I thought I'd share some more work in progress pics. Most of the castle is built, I have the 3 conical roofs to complete, but everything else is ready to be covered in a bit of texture, using a plaster based paste. You can see I have given some of the castle a quick coat of the texture already.

Rear wall section, can be removed for ease of play.
Rear wall removed to view courtyard.
Top down view.
Gate house.
Side wall detail.
Well that's it for now, cya again!

Painting Update - Fantasy Humans

Hi all, just thought I'd upload some pics of what I'm currently painting.

General On Griffin. Both miniatures from The griffin is
from their HOT 15mm Fantasy range (HOT27), and the rider is from the
Tabletop 15mm Fantasy range (MDA42F).

I cut the rider in half and sculpted the legs and cape on. A bit
rusty at the scultping,  and first attempt at sculpting 15mm scale.

I am pleased with how it turned out.

Human Mounted Armoured Lancer's from Irregular Miniatures.

Human Mounted General &
Human Cavalry Standard Bearer,
 again from Irregular Miniatures.

The unit side on.
That's it for now, cya next time!

Castell Coch Rhan Un (Red Castle Part One).

Hi all, just thought I'd let you know how I've been spending my free time of late. I've gone back to my first war gaming passion, fantasy. It was Warhammer that made me catch the war gaming bug, back when there were Citadel Miniature stores, rather than Games Workshops, oh soooo long ago.... Anyway.

I decided to build a castle, my lord will need an abode after all. After looking for some inspiration on the interwebs, I went back to my place of birth, or just north to be exact, Tongwynlais. On the hillside above this sleepy little village stands Castell Coch, or Red Castle. It's a 19th century Gothic revival castle built as the holiday home for John Crichton-Stuart, 3rd Marquess of Bute. It is a lovely castle, very picturesque, more a fortified home really, but looks great ;) So this is what I planned to build.

I've been building it for a few weeks now, time permitting, not near completion yet. But, I thought I'd share some in progress photos with you.

As you can see, I made the back wall detachable, to help with painting the interior courtyard, movement of miniatures, and hopefully to use as a nice photo backdrop for miniatures.

I've also recently bought some 15mm fantasy miniatures from Irregular Miniatures and, also bought their USE ME High Fantasy rules. Thus far have only managed to painted one base of cavalry, a few pics below.

I'll post more pics when I've painted more of course, but for now.... ta ta.
