A Baron walks into a Happy Burger.....

Hi all, just a post to show a couple of things I've painted lately. I haven't posted for awhile, because I haven't done much hobby wise - a kind of hobby block I guess. Anyway, I've started painting again soooo....

After getting the free Happy Burger Bot from, I just had to make a Happy Burger Bar for my colony.

Patrol Angis - First Impressions.

Hi all,
Today I give you my first impressions of Patrol Angis, a 15mm sci-fi / space opera skirmish ruleset from Gavin Syme, over at I've had a quick read through of the rules, but, I have'nt played a game with them yet.

First off, the quality of the book is great, It's obvious Gavin has put a lot off work in to Patrol Angis. It's a 64 paged A5 sized book, which is easy to read and conveniently sized for the tabletop. The layout is well thought out and easy on the eyes, the art work, although all black and white, is stunning!

The rules, as mentioned I haven't played a game yet, but I remember the basic principles from play testing, I got my name in the book! :) This is not an in-depth review of the rules, so I may miss some finer details, but these are the basic rules...

Troops are organised into elements, or groups of miniatures, a retained lance for example can have 22 miniatures comprising of 3 elements of 2 Posts (10 man element) and a command Mina (2 man element).

As with most games you get a initiative phase, Patrol Angis has an interesting way of resolving initiative. Both players roll a dice and the highest wins, normal stuff so far, the winning number rolled is the number of elements (troops) that can be activated that turn. The winner of the initiative roll gets a +1 to his roll. This means the winner gets a bonus but not too much so the losing player suffers.

Hi all, another City of Heroes update. The PPD (Paragon Police Department) has some additions to their motor pool. I painted up a couple of police cars to help in their serving of the peace!

Sloop of War

Hi all,
As I mentioned in my previous post, I've been a little distracted of late. this distraction comes in the form of Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag, which has you playing the part of a pirate!!!

Progress pic of Sloop.
This has inspired me to make a ship for my 15mm fantasy miniatures. I'm not really working to a plan, making it up as I go, my usual way.

Malig Command Group.

The Beautiful Senga!

I've started a Khanate Empire army, from the Ion Age, with some Maligs painted first. I've based them for use with Gruntz! They'll be classed as a Commander, obviously, based with his personal standard, and Gruntz Specialists, to cover the Medic and Tech guy.

Bertie and the finished army!

Hi all,
Just a quick update to let you know what I've finished recently. It's been a busy week this week. Some of you may remember there was a recent addition to the family, Biggles, a Tibetan terrier puppy. Well, this week we gave his father, Bertie, a home. Unfortunately, through no fault of his own, the family he was with could no longer care for him. Today my wife and I, took Bertie, along with Biggles, on his first walk in Rendlesham forest. We certainly enjoyed ourselves, even if  we didn't witness any UFOs. So with settling him in and wot not, I didn't get much painting done this week.

Retained Reinforcements Arrive!

What's that coming over the hill? Is it a monster? Is it a monster?

When the Retained knights need a ride, they call for a Type 36 Mullo Armoured Fighting Vehicle. The Mullo AFV (from is a fantastic addition to any sci-fi army, and my Retained army has just received the first of four!

Happy New Year!!!

Hi all,
I'd like to take this opportunity to wish everyone a very happy and prosperous new year! and I hope you had a wonderful Christmas.

This time of year most people make resolutions, I thought I would make some, of the gaming nature anyway, my gaming resolutions are:
  • Build more terrain.
  • Complete projects instead of leaving them half finished on the shelf.
  • Paint many more miniatures of course,
  • and Blog more often.
With the first two in mind, I've finally finished my castle, Castell Coch!!! You can find the in-progress posts here, here and here. This project has been long over due, I'm ashamed to admit that I started it in June 2013 .... I've been distracted by bright and shiny things!

If you'd like to know about the real Castle Coch (Red Castle in welsh), here's the wiki page. It's a beautiful castle, and I'm happy with how the model turned out.

On with the pictures:
Draw bridge up and portcullis down.
